I saw one.............sorry no images. Its in a PCGS MS63 holder.
It has the utmost insane color, not a rainbow all colors in the rainbow though.
Its just beautiful!!

But.............he want $1k for it and not sure if he's asking to much $$$ for it.

So, if you have one can you post it please.

Both are PCGS MS66 ... these are both from True View images, so no color saturation added:

I just knew Doug would be the one to post a killer CC. I have some killer GSA's that need to be photographed. Outstanding color and luster.

How about a 80-cc, a tough one to find with nice color.

From what I hear, the best CC's are the ones in Bryan Sonnier's collection, as he made a specialty out of collecting toned CC's early on.  Unfortunately I've never seen any of them !!!

Nice '80-CC Jack ... your '84-CC from your NGC Registry Set looks pretty cool too, a PCGS MS65 ...

This is similar but much more toning. Is this considered mottled toning?

And I know that price is only relative, but a MS 63 holder with more color than this
would be worth $1k??

I like the coin this guy has but don't want to start out owning it and be upside down.
I do plan to keep it indefinitely, but one never knows.

Stefanie, when you pay premiums for color, you are automatically upside down when you buy the coin.  I say this because there is no guaranteed market for color coins, and you should only buy them if you can afford to keep them and you don't need the money.  That's just practical advice, espeically right now, when the market is soft, and finding a buyer when you want to sell may not be so easy.

Now, having said that, if a coin has really special color, then of course it has some additional value.  But only you can judge whether it's worth $1000 to you to own a coin.  As for toning breaks, there are several kinds.  Some coins, especially GSA CC dollars, have lots of little spots of toning breaks (little grey areas with pewter color instead of other colors).  This can be called mottling.  You can see a few typical GSA spots on the first 1884-CC that I posted.  Or, you can have a coin with a large pewter area, like the 2nd '84-CC.  On some coins, the toning break or large pewter area would bother me, but not on this one.  It's a matter of taste.  This coin has wild color even with the pewter area.  But some buyers won't like it ... so in the end, it depends on your objective:  are you a long-term collector, or do you have an expectation of flipping the coins later?  If you exepct to sell them for a profit someday, you have to be picky & practical.   As for me, I just want to build a magnificent set, and I hope to be able to own it for a long time.

Jimmy: I'm surprised that a TCCS board member hasn't scooped this coin up. Has anybody actually looked at it? It's the kind of coin you have to see in hand. Although it's in a PCGS MS65 holder the surfaces are solid MS67 quality (maybe it was a hair too dark for them). Who knows? Anyway, it is a very cool coin.

Mikey,You are spot on,i never did see this coin in hand,i asked Jimmy if it might not be for me because of possibly being too dark.Again,Happy Fathers Day.Lloyddancingsmiley1

Mike,

You'll recall when I sold you my CC collection this was the ONLY one I kept; for the very reasons you mentioned. I've always liked this coin due to it's very dramatic toning...dual sided at that! It's got to be one of the most unique CC's around.

Frankly, I don't think the coin is to dark and am surprised it's never sold, especially at the BST price.

Cheers
